Living on the Edge

And playing with markers and paint…

I’m enjoying “Brave Intuitive Painting” by Flora Bowley right now.  Its a book on techniques for uncovering your own unique painting style.  Her painting style is vibrant and fresh and I hope to pick up a few pointers from the exercises in the book.

The paintings are so encouraging; the colors wonderful – very optimistic – not cutesy.  I want to try to replicate them but at the same time I don’t want my art to look like a copy of hers.  She mentions this in the book – about gathering the tools needed to make art and then taking those tools and creating something you can call your own. I hope that happens!

Its really nice to have such great teachers who are willing to share what they know.  I wish there had been books like this when I was first interested in art – there’s no telling where I’d be today!!

“I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over.  Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center” Kurt Vonnegut, Jr

This image from a page in my 11×14 journal.  Its a big journal! I plan to add color to it…Flora Bowley style.

Here’s a picture of the book…you can get it on Amazon!
